Watched a fascinating programme tonight about Botswana and the ’semi-success’ story of this aftican nation.
It seems quite often that all we hear about Africa is violence, starvation and failure. But there are other aspects that don’t always get covered by the media. The above programme did illustrate some of the problems faced by the people in Botswana (HIV, forced migration etc) but it also showed the successful diamond mining industry which funded health, education and security etc.
Africa has such incredible potential!
There is no justifiable why the citizens of this great continent can’t earn their way into prosperity and peace.
I am a Liberal and I beleive in freedom in trade. Let us in Europe and America open our markets. Lets follow the lead that China is giving and invest heavily in African Economies. Lets expand the success story of the EU across the Med and assist the creation of a similar framework for African Union.
Africa is rich. In materials, in culture and in potential….
